News Flash (Updated May 20, 2009):
HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan has approved the use of "bridge" loans by FHA-approved lenders. This means that anyone who qualifies for the First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit will be able to obtain cash from a short-term loan to help make their down payment, and repay that loan when the tax credit is received from the government. Donovan said that detailed instructions will be made public and provided to lenders in the near future.
The new Homebuyer Tax Credit Bill provides for a tax credit up to $8,000 (or 10% of the cost of the home, whichever is lesser) that would be available to first-time home buyers for the purchase of a principal residence on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
Also, through 2010, homeowners will continue to be able to claim a 30% tax credit (up from 10%) for purchases of new furnaces, windows and insulation.
